Announcing Our 24/25 Season
Press Releases

Winnipeg Jewish Theatre has launched our next season: a double bill programme featuring a beloved heart-warming drama and a Tony Award winning musical comedy!

In 2024/25, we will be celebrating a season of WONDER! Wonder, or Peleh in Hebrew, is a feeling of surprise and admiration caused by something beautiful or unexpected. "In a time when we struggle to make meaning of the world around us, perhaps one of the most challenging tasks is to find the light in the darkness, the beauty in the mundane” says artistic director Dan Petrenko. “This season, we are thrilled to share a pairing of wonder-filled stories of human connection in vastly different times and spaces. All the while, we proudly continue to support Jewish artists around the country and to develop new Jewish Canadian plays right here in Winnipeg.”

THE BAND’S VISIT

By David Yazbek and Itamar Moses

Directed by Dan Petrenko

MAY 1 - MAY 11, 2025

Once, not long ago, a group of musicians came to Israel from Egypt. You probably didn’t hear about it. It wasn’t very important.

An Egyptian Police Band arrives in Israel to play a concert. After a mix-up at the border, they are sent to a remote village in the middle of the desert. With no bus until morning and no hotel in sight, these unlikely travelers are taken in by the locals. Under the spell of the desert sky, their lives become intertwined in the most unexpected ways.

Winner of 10 Tony Awards in 2019, including Best Musical,Best Book, and Best Original Score, The Band's Visit is an intimate musical about the brief yet lasting connections we make in our lives.
